Hatteras has the distinction of being one of the first three production fiberglass boat builders to start-up in around 1960. The company was started in 1959 by North Carolina knitting mill owner Willis Slane who, as word has it, just wanted to build a good strong boat for himself for fishing the outer banks. What followed is one of the unparalleled success stories of the fiberglass boat building industry. When it comes to building good quality, consistent and substantial sportfishing machines, no one came close in the late '80s. Hatteras' built-like-a-brick-uhhh-boathouse attitude can be seen from stem to stern. You won't find a stronger 65' production boat on the water. If you don't think that's important, just remember: Lots of people, like every single person who passes by, are going to turn their heads in your direction. Because, after all, anyone can tell with a mere glance that this boat is the ultimate battlewagon.
