The Bayport Plant Farm was founded in 1973 by Captain Richard Steele, a world renowned horticulturist dedicated to crossbreeding rhododendrons to produce hardy plants for the Atlantic garden. Captain Steele spent more than 50 years studying, breeding and promoting stunningly beautiful, hardy plants for gardens and parks believing beauty would promote happiness and peace. This 46 acre, road waterfront offering is an impressive entanglement of rare and unusual magnolia’s, rhododendrons, dogwoods to name a few in amongst our native maples, birch, and pines. The meandering roads through the Farm lead to several prime elevated building sites with views of the protected waters of Lower South Cove. The 200-year-old cape, one of the oldest in the area sits back from the road with the large barn in close proximity. The possibilities are many with this unique acreage - one thing is certain Capitan Steele was known for his generous spirit and tremendous vision has inspired many and his legacy continues.
