Description

They say location is everything. This 3-bedroom detached house is in a beautiful location just 10 minutes from Montreuil-sur-Mer and 30 minutes from the glorious beaches and glamour of Le Touquet – and it’s just an hour from Calais – the perfect weekend retreat.

The property is located at the end of a lane in the charming village of Sempy, in the beautiful ‘7 valleys region’ of the Pas-de-Calais. The house is set in ¾ of an acre of land and has stunning views down the valley on to woodland and a river.

The property is all on one level but the attic could potentially be converted into living space. The house has 3 bedrooms, a study/playroom, utility room, cellar and 2 adjoining outbuildings. The sitting/dining room is open plan and has a log burner, traditional beams and exposed stonework. The kitchen is well equipped, also has wooden beams and has great views out on to the garden. The bathroom has a washbasin and bath, with overhead shower, and there is a separate WC.

This part of France, a mere thirty something miles from England has an enormous amount to offer; three national parks, an excellent variety of restaurants, the famous beaches and sophisticated charm of Le Touquet, stunning Flemish architecture and lots of good golf courses.

The hilltop town of Montreuil-sur-Mer, a 10 minute drive from the house, retains the “on sea” part of its name even though this is no longer true. Once upon a time, the estuary of the River Canche reached the town, and it was a busy and thriving port for trade ships. By the 18th century, however, the river had become so silted up that poor Montreuil was no longer "sur-mer”, but actually left stranded some distance inland. The town is now a fascinating mix of medieval ramparts, small winding streets and gothic churches. It has some excellent restaurants, a large weekly market and is well known as being the setting for Victor Hugo's novel, “Les Misérables”.
