Slightly inland and rising up the hill-side is the old village of Mojacar which has a particular and special charm and magic of its own, enticing its visitors to return again and again.

The fishing port of Garrucha is the second most important in the province of Almeria, with fishing providing its main source of income. The focal point of the town is the attractive harbour, where the day's catch is auctioned each afternoon. The many sea food restaurants which line the promenade display a wonderful array of fish and shell fish during the summer. The port is famous for its red prawns which generate half the fishing revenue.

Garrucha is located between the beaches of historic Mojacar and the next town of Vera. Its origins date back to the sixteenth century, when it was founded by a group of fishers, who built a tower as protection from pirates.

With some 320 days of sunshine a year, the location of the villa is ideal for family holidays. There is plenty to do and adults and children alike will enjoy the Parque Acuatico, which is a drive of about 35 minutes. Here, there are all sorts of water rides to suit all ages, plus a river adventure, large pool, lake and children's pool and slides. The Parque is open daily from May until September.

Another great attraction is Mini Hollywood, about 30 minutes drive from the villa. Here, you can experience life in the American Wild West, with live shows throughout the day and a saloon and film museum. There is also a zoo with about 150 species of animals from around the world, plus a bar, restaurant, children's playground and swimming pool.

The villa is only some five minutes walk from the town of Lubrin, set high in the Sierra de Los Filabres. Originally a mediaeval settlement, Lubrin is now a charming market town with some interesting architecture, its own town hall, several cafe bars and restaurants, one of which has been voted the best tapas bar in Almeria.
