Ocean going little ship built by David Laux Boat Building in Delaware. She is a true motor sailor- A trawler that sails well. She burns about a gallon an hour at 7 mph under power alone. Built from 1/4 inch aluminum plate she is made to last- Light and strong. Maintained and upgraded in fresh water for the last 12 years; Althea is a true passage maker and outstanding live-aboard. She boasts a cat-ketch rig with a double wishbone design that requires no sheet work when tacking. Turn the wheel and you have tacked with all three sails. Designed for long distance passages, she is comfortable and fast. Her hull shape and variable pitch prop from Hundested allow her to reach speeds of 8+ knots under sail. She is comfortably handled by two, but the last owner (age 76) singled handled her throughout the Caribbean and South America.
