Situation:

Rather special we would say, and different too - being within walled (off street) grounds. Finding it - If coming from Larbert Cross, head East along the Main Street and after 0.8 mile (opposite the petrol station), turn right into Carronvale Road. After 0.6 mile (the road swings to the right and then to the left), you will see the stone wall on the right. Go through the big iron gates (Beechmount House) and continue straight for 100 yards or so until you come to the west side of the house.

If coming from Glasgow (by the M876 motorway) or from Stirling (by the A9 old main Road), find the big North Broomage/Glenbervie roundabout. From here, head South (going towards Falkirk) and after almost a mile and at Larbert Cross, turn left into the Main Street. After 0.8 mile and at the petrol station, turn right into Carronvale Road. After 0.6 miles and on the right, you will find Beechmount House - go through the gates.

The area is entirely residential and very much upmarket - all around are high value properties, a sound indicator of the area. The good primary school is 2/3 minutes walk, the well regarded secondary school at Stenhousemuir is a little over a mile over the back, Larbert Station (Glasgow/Edinburgh/Dunblane/etc.) is less than ten minutes brisk walk, the village shops are about ten minutes walk, Stenhousemuir shopping precinct (with Asda) is just over a mile, Falkirk and Grangemouth town centres are around 3 and 7 miles, and there is very easy access to the main road/motorway system to Glasgow/The South/Stirling/Fife/Edinburgh/etc. Worth mentioning too are the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, and 3 golf courses/cricket and football grounds being within about 2 miles.

Beechmount House was built for Major Dobbie in 1886 (who also built the Dobbie Hall) and is a permanent reminder of the time when Victorian Larbert was the ‘Constantinople of Scotland’ and a powerhouse of the iron industry, with many fine mansions and estates still in existence today (Kinnaird, Torwoodhall, Beechmount, Carronvale, Carrongrange). Beechmount House had the first telephone number in Larbert, number 1, and within the grounds are 4 particularly high value houses, while Beechmount itself has a ground floor flat (no. 2), an East side wing (no.3) and of course no.1.
