America's Challenge is an extraordinary high-tech kevlar and epoxy ultralight composite. Built in New Zealand as a Volvo Round-the-World racing sloop by Cookson Boats LTD. Reportedly she sailed the first leg of the 1994 race, but was forced to retire due to funding issues.
She is a high performance powerful ultralight racing sloop and every consideration was maded to achieve her very light weight within the Volvo Round the World rule. Kevlar was the material specified.
Her low wetted surface and powerful rig make her exhilarating to sail in a breeze and easy to build apparent wind in light air. She is extremely well constructed.
