Arta is located in the northeast of Mallorca, 70km from Palma. The coast of Arta (25km long) has preserved its natural, unspoilt condition as many areas have not been built on. Some places deserving to be highlighted include: the beach and dune area of Sa Canova, the coastal plain of Sa Colonia de Sant Pere, the enormous cliffs in Ferrutx, where some of the most unique fauna and flora species on the island live (Paeonia cambessedesii, the fish eagle or the peregrine falcon) and finally, a series of little sandy coves. In the old centre of Arta, in the high part of the village, there are large manor-houses which in the past used to be the village homes of the area's land-owning families. Here, one also finds homes built by those who emigrated to Central and South America and made a fortune.
