Locality: Marsaskala
Marsaskala is a fishing village located in the south eastern region of Malta. Its name is said to have been derived from the word 'Marsa' which in Arabic means 'bay' and Sqali, which is an Italian word meaning 'Sicilian'. It is possible that the name was given by the many Sicilian fishermen that used to stay in the village. The parish church of this lively little village is dedicated to St. Anne, and the patron saint's feast is celebrated in July each year.
