I know, the thought of a Country retreat is normally of a traditional house set in a rural idyll. Well apart from the traditional bit, this property fits the bill, and if it is intended as a holiday home easy to lock up and leave and easy to open up again. It does no harm to think outside the box sometimes.

A relative new build this property is very energy efficient as the "energy" report confirms, which means it is not expensive to heat on those days when the sky is not so blue nor the sun so strong. Entrance is into the hallway which forms the central hub of the house with all three bedrooms (2 double, one single) and the dining room opening off it. Step down into the dining room with its office corner, bathroom access and door into the fully fitted and equipped kitchen. Step down again into the living room, which in its current configuration does not work for me, being on a split level and consisting of two large couches, TV and American Fridge - but it takes all sorts. The garage and back door open off this room. At the rear is the boiler room, and this property benefits from two central heating systems, one of oil and the other wood. I don't think the oil is used much.

There are two terraces, the one at the rear consists of decking and benefits from the morning sun, whereas at the other end of the house is a large patio area with barbeque. Beyond this is the garden , mainly down to lawn and fruit trees.

Set in a small hamlet of about eight houses it is a short drive to the village of Lizant with boulangerie, post office, bar, brocante and a fish and chip restaurant! A ten minute drive will take you to the market town of Ruffec, whilst 5 minutes in the other direction and you are in the pretty market town of Civray, neither town is large but both have a full range of facilities for everyday living. For City shops, restaurants, theatre, and TGV (train) links to the UK it is about 1 hour to Poitiers which has an airport served by one of the "cheap" airlines
