Having survived the volcanic eruptions 1730 to 1736 Yaiza's real attraction lies in the fact that its charming and historic white washed buildings and squares have been largely preserved intact over the centuries. The town has twice been voted the prettiest village in Spain.The village is the administrative centre for the municipality of Yaiza, and it is where one can find the Timanfaya National Park and the wonderful resort of Playa Blanca. The town's pretty church Nuestro Senora de los Remedios, which dates from the 17th century, also survived the volcanic eruptions intact. The church houses a statue of the Madonna; which legend has it is sometimes bathed in a mysterious blue light. Yaiza's real good fortune lies in the fact that its charming and historic white washed buildings and squares have been largely preserved intact over the centuries.
