Locality: Siggiewi

Siggiewi is a town and a local council located in the south western part of the island. It is positioned between Rabat and Zurrieq in the Girgenti Valley. The sunny town used to be one of the ten original parishes created in 1436. Today the remains of its parish church are still there, however the heart of the town is dominated by the newer parish church dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Bari, built in the 17th century. The feast in honour of Saint Nicholas is celebrated in June every year. During the feast days, the entire town is decorated in bright colors, and marching bands walk the streets playing festive music. The Inquisitor's summer palace is situated in the area, as well as the Verdala Palace, which are today the residences of the prime minister and president respectively. The well-known beach of Shar Lapsi is also located within the area. The Limestone Heritage Park and Garden is another great find offering a tour of the island's history set in stone.
