The birdlife is varied too and you are likely to spot curlew, grey herons, egrets, turnstones and plovers. Inland, the Rio Seco ('Dry River') and Sierra Escalona, have some varied plant species with rare orchids and dwarf palms, growing alongside the more common thyme, foxglove, juniper and camomile.

El Mojon beach is a natural beach which is seldom busy and is 270 metres in length.

There are wooden footpaths and drinking water is available.

At the southern end is a bar and toilets.

The main beach of Pilar de la Horadada is just north of El Mojon and is called Torre de la Horadada.

This is more commercialised with a marina.
