Locality: Safi

Safi is a charming little town located in the south of the island. It is said to have been inhabited for more than seven centuries. It used to be a meeting point of farmers and shepherds from the four surrounding towns on their way back from work. The first historical reference to the town is in 1419, when the town had about 90 inhabitants and was still a part of the Bir Miftuh. The patron saint of Safi is Saint Paul and the church dedicated to him stands proud in the very heart of the town. The colorful village feast is celebrated annually and it takes place on the last week of August. During the days of the feast, the streets are decorated with lights and banners, and festive music by traditional marching bands.
