La Alfoquia - The Village - During the 15th century Zurgena and La Alfoquia were fought over by the Moors and Christians on several occasions before the armies of the Christian Kings finally won the day. The Parish Church of San Ramon Nonato is one of the most notable places to visit. Built in 1558 to 1570, the fabulous Mudejar woodwork still survives.

What to do in La Alfoquia:

* There is a huge outdoor municipal swimming pool and baby pool with pool bar, a gymnasium and a bowling green.
* In the village of La Alfoquia there are restaurants, bars, kiddies play-area, butchers, bakers, tobacconist, banks, internet café, petrol station and deli. There is also a fantastic fresh fruit & veg market on Sunday morning, which also sells roast chicken.
* Across the bridge ( 5-10minute walk, depending how fast you are!) in the neighbouring town of Zurgena, there is a supermarket with a butchers, fishmongers, pharmacy, doctors, bank and bars. There is also a street market every Friday morning where you can get fresh fruit and veg, clothes and handbags.
* La Alfoquia festival takes place in June which is also a lively affair with celebrations continuing throughout the night.
