Artful Dodger is a 2002 MacGregor 26X motorsailer.   She is a versatile trailerable sailboat.    When under power she offers up to 20 knots of boat speed.   When sailing she uses a mainsail, a furling genoa, and a spinnaker. Artful Dodger has been cruised on Lake Erie and Lake Huron’s Georgian Bay.   She is a fresh water only boat that has been stored in the off-season.   This is a significant advantage over boats kept in saltwater environments.   She has a double-axle trailer, which is an upgrade over the standard single axle trailer.   This provides more safety and control while towing.  She has a 50 HP Yamaha outboard engine.   She has a retractable centerboard allowing her to travel in shallow as well as deep water.

The MacGregor 26X is an extremely popular boat.   5,000 have been sold.   Tattoo Yachts continues to manufacture and sell a newer model called the Tattoo 26 using the MacGregor 26 deck and hull molds.   The 26X is designed for day sailing or cruising trips with up to six people.   Four is a more practical number.  26X’s have a water ballast system that offers significant extra ballast when sailing yet cuts weight when the ballast tank is emptied.   This is very helpful under power or when the boat is being towed on a trailer.   Artful Dodger can do 60 knots while on the road as well as 20 knots on the water.    This allows the owner to sail in a wide variety of locations.   She is in good condition, including the interior cushions and carpeting.

Health issues are compelling the owner and wife to reluctantly put Artful Dodger up for sale.   The current owner bought Artful Dodger new in 2003.
