The church is also the home of the municipal museum, which holds paintings, silver and sacred vestments of great artistic value and, on the ground floor, the Ethnographic museum, with over 600 items from Eastern Africa. Another important building is the church of San Gregorio, the oldest church in the town, which was built in about 1000 AD in the Romanesque-Byzantine style.

Montone is designated as being one of the ten most beautiful villages in Umbria (Uno dei Borghi piu Belli di Umbria) and has three big festivals every year, the Umbria Film Festival (July), La Donazione della Santa Spina (August), La Festa del Bosco (October) with many other concerts, performances and activities occurring throughout the year.
