The town of Palavas (6,000 inhabitants) is at the doorstep of Montpellier (11 km SE), the very lively capital city of Languedoc Roussillon. The town has developed along the grand canal which is actually the river Lez that runs through Montpellier and reaches the sea at Palavas-les-flots, the once old port of Montpellier. Today the sea resort that started in 1924 and its beautiful 2 km stretch of sandy beach has a large marina since 1997 with over 1,000 moorings and 200 more along the canal. A sailor paradize.

The water reservoir tower (chateau d’eau) now turned into the Phare de Mediterranee restaurant is definitely the city’s attraction with over 300 000 visitors per year enjoying its fantastic panoramic view. The nearby 1743 tower, the Bellestras redoubt build to prevent pirats attacks is also worth a visit. It hosts today the Albert Dubout museum. The town has a lot to offer, shopping, cafes , restaurants and even a large Casinos if you enjoy gambling.
