Josephine is a fully restored 43’ Monk designed tri-cabin cruiser build by Blanchard Boat Company in 1947. The current owner has had stewardship of Josephine for the last 27 years and has brought her up to Bristol condition during that time. Josephine has been moored in a covered slip (non-live aboard) near the Ballard Locks in Seattle, WA. The slip is available for the next owner if desired. If you have been looking for a classic wood boat, but were deterred by potential maintenance and repair costs, Josephine is the boat you've been waiting for!
Josephine is planked with 7/8” yellow cedar below the waterline and wedge-seamed red cedar above the water line over 1½”x1½” white oak steam-bent frames. Plank fasteners are #12 - 2½” bronze wood screws – the boat was refastened (reefed, some planks replaced, new garboards and strut planks in Honduras, all nail holes bunged with wooden nails, and 100% refastened approximately in 2011). Chines were refastened with bronze carriage bolts in 2014). Deck beams are sawn fir, with plywood under canvas. The house is Honduras mahogany.
The interior was completely removed and the vessel gutted to the frames and five bulkheads. The interior was replaced with MDO plywood and Honduras trim, with a double bunk and head forward, and large main cabin amid-ships, and a galley, settee, dining table, and hanging locker aft.
Main house and aft cabin deck beams are sawn fir, with canvas over plywood. Cabin sides are Honduras mahogany. On the foredeck and side decks, the canvas was removed and replaced with 7/8” varnished Honduras decks. The main cabin roof was extended 14” to provide for a shelf over the aft cabin, finished with three operable windows of the same design and size as the three original fixed windows, and the canvas replaced. The aft cabin was reshaped due to the weight of a 1970’s-era flying bridge addition (subsequently removed), reinforced by two layers of 3/8” MDO glued and nailed with 2” bronze ring nails, and the canvas replaced. The cockpit deck was completely removed and replaced with 7/8” yellow cedar decking over ¾” marine plywood supported by 1½”x2½” fir structural members. All exterior cabin canvas trim was replaced. All windows were removed and replaced with Low-E tinted tempered glass. The original bronze hardware was removed, dipped to remove the chroming, and re-installed. All interior and exterior varnish and paint was removed and restored. Topsides varnish most recently updated (six coats on top of a 20 coat base) 2016.
