Description

KOOKABURRA III

The Taskforce ’87 Defense based in Perth was well organized and well funded.  With performance monitored by on board computers for the first time in 12 Metre racing, the design team including Alan Payne, Iain Murray was exploring every avenue to gain an advantage.   Kookaburra III, the faster sister of ‘Kooka I’ and ‘Kooka II’, went on to win the defender trials 6-0 for the right to defend the ’87 Americas Cup in Perth.

Purchased in 2012 by an Italian Business man, Kookaburra III has been restored meticulously and competes successfully in regattas throughout the Mediterranean.   She sparkles under her revived original gold livery including the crew who are handsomely attired in her original Australian colors of ‘green and gold’.

Plans call for Kookaburra III to arrive in Newport in the spring of 2019 to prepare and compete in the 12 Metre World Championships scheduled for July 8-13, 2019.
