Elegant neo-classical chateau
This beautiful 7-bedroom Cognac producer's chateau is set in about 13 acres of parkland and comes with a swimming pool and very attractive outbuildings
Chateau
Ground floor
The front door opens into a huge circular entrance hall (about 30m2), the centrepiece of which is a magnificent free-standing spiral staircase.
To the left of the hall a pair of doors opens to the formal dining room (6.3m x 4.9m = 30m2) with wooden parquet flooring, wainscoting, a marble fireplace with a classical overmantle, a pair of doors to the informal sitting room and a door to the kitchen.
The kitchen (13m x 4.9m = 50m2) has been carefully designed with entertaining in mind. In addition to a breakfast / informal dining area there is the main kitchen / food preparation area with a cooking range and breakfast bar and there is a second kitchen area which allows plenty of space for a number of people / caterers to work without being cramped. There are two sinks and even two dishwashers.
Next to the kitchen is the informal sitting room (6.3m x 5m = 31m2) with wooden parquet flooring, wainscoting and a marble fireplace with a classical overmantle. This room then leads to the formal sitting room (6.4m x 6.3m = 40m2) with wooden parquet flooring, wainscoting, a marble fireplace with a classical overmantle and plenty of decorative plaster moulding. There are a pairs of door opening back into the main entrance hall and glazed doors to the terrace overlooking the park.
To the far side of the formal sitting room is the library (4.9m x 4.5m = 22m2) with wooden parquet flooring, wainscoting, a marble fireplace with a classical overmantle and built-in library book cases. From here a door opens to a smaller sitting room (3.8m x 3.8m = 14m2) with marble fireplace and wainscoting - this room is currently used as a children's play room.
There is a ground floor WC off the entrance hall.
Staff apartment
To the rear of the smaller sitting room a door opens to a room (about 13m2) which serves as a staff room, off which is a small kitchen. A flight of steps rises to two intercommunicating bedrooms (17m2 and 11m2) as well as a bathroom. The larger bedroom has access to a service staircase providing access to each floor.
First floor
The staircase rises from the entrance hall to an equally beautiful circular first floor landing surmounted by a rotunda. On this floor there are five large bedrooms (22m2, 21m2, 21m2, 20m2 and 20m2), three with ensuite shower/bathrooms with the other two sharing a bathroom.
Cellars
Below the house there are extensive cellars, former staff rooms, a laundry and a wine cellar.
Park
The property sits on a plot of about 55,000m2 (about 13 acres). A sweep drive leads from the entrance gates up to a large gravel area to the front of the house with ample parking for a good number of cars. The park itself has lawns surrounding the house which then give way to meadow.
To one side of the grounds is a magnificent set of outbuildings - formerly part of a model farm. These buildings offer huge potential for conversion to gites / guest houses. Set in the courtyard of these buildings is a swimming pool (10m x 5m) with views across the park to the house.
This is a beautiful property that has recently undergone a thoughtful renovation - in addition to being a very fine home it offers great potential as a boutique hotel, a retreat, a wedding venue and so on.
