Why look for and offer work on Retemax
Free for both sides
Posting a job ad is free, and browsing ads and replying to them costs nothing.
Several countries, 11 languages
The site is available in 11 languages, so your ad is also seen by people outside your country – useful both when you are looking for work abroad and when you are looking for workers.
Direct contact
There is no agency and no commission between you and the other side. You get in touch directly with the person who posted the ad.
Alerts for new ads
Save your search and the ads that interest you to your account, and you will be among the first to see a new ad.
How to find a job
Six steps from searching to an agreement.
- Open the Jobs category and choose the line of work that interests you.
- Narrow it down: type the occupation into the search box and choose a country or region.
- Read the ad right to the end – the duties, requirements, place of work, pay and how to apply.
- Save the ads that suit you to your favourites so that you can compare them.
- Get in touch with a short, clear message and attach your CV if it is asked for.
- Don’t wait for a single reply – respond to several ads and keep a note of who you have contacted.
A CV that gets read to the end
An employer spends less than a minute on a first look at a CV. Make it easy for them.
- One page, two at most, a readable font and clear headings.
- At the top, your name, phone number, email address and where you live – no unnecessary personal details.
- Work experience from the most recent backwards: employer, dates, what exactly you did.
- Put your results in numbers where you can: how many customers, how big a team, how much was saved.
- List your education, courses, driving licence and languages, with your level in each.
- Tailor your CV to the ad: put what the employer is looking for at the top.
- Check your spelling and ask someone to read it through before you send it.
Your first message to an employer
Your first message decides whether you are invited in. Keep it short and specific.
- Say which ad you are replying to and why the job interests you.
- In two or three sentences, say what you can do and how much experience you have.
- Say when you can start and how they can reach you.
- Write politely and in full sentences, without abbreviations and without capital letters throughout.
- If you don’t get a reply within a few days, get in touch once more – but only once.
The job interview
Good preparation is worth more than a good impression.
Before the interview
- Find out what the employer does.
- Prepare examples from your work so far.
- Write down the questions you want to ask.
- Check the address and arrive ten minutes early.
At the interview
- Answer briefly and honestly, without reciting answers learned by heart.
- Talk about what you have actually done.
- Ask about the duties, working hours, pay and type of contract.
- Don’t speak badly of a former employer.
After the interview
- Say thank you with a short message the same day or the next.
- Ask for the offer in writing.
- Read the contract before you sign it and ask about anything that isn’t clear.
Post your own ad: job wanted
You don’t have to just wait for employers’ ads. Post your own and let them find you.
- Put your occupation and location in the title, for example: HGV driver with Category C licence seeks work, Leeds and surrounding area.
- Describe your experience, what you can do and what kind of work you are looking for – permanent, seasonal or occasional.
- Say when you can start and whether you are willing to relocate or to work away from home.
- Don’t publish personal documents, your identity card number or your bank account number.
- Once you have found a job, remove the ad under My Account.
For employers: an ad that the right candidates respond to
The clearer the ad, the fewer messages you get from people who don’t fit and the more from those who do.
A title with the job title in it
Give the exact name of the job and the place of work. A title such as ‘Staff wanted’ says nothing.
What the person will do
List the main duties in four to six points, the way an ordinary working day looks.
What you are looking for
Separate the essential requirements from the desirable ones. Too long a list of requirements puts off good candidates too.
What you offer
Pay or pay range, type of contract, working hours, accommodation, transport, meals. Ads that state the pay get more applications.
How to apply
Say whether you want a message, a call or a CV, and the closing date for applications.
Reply to everyone
A short reply to those you have not chosen, too, protects your company’s reputation. Once you have filled the position, remove the ad.
Working abroad
Working in another country can be a good opportunity, but it calls for more checking before you set off.
- Check that the employer exists: official website, address, company registration, other workers’ experiences.
- Ask for a written contract before you travel, in a language you understand.
- The contract must state the pay, the working hours, how long the job lasts and who pays for accommodation and travel.
- Find out which permits and documents you need to work in that country.
- Check that you have health insurance from your first day at work.
- Don’t leave your passport or identity card with anyone for safekeeping.
- Leave your family the address, the employer’s contact details and a copy of the contract.
Beware: fake job ads
Most ads are honest, but scammers target precisely the people who are looking for work. Walk away if you notice any of the following.
- They ask you to pay up front for equipment, training, a visa, transport or registration.
- They offer high pay for little work, with no interview and no questions about your experience.
- They ask you to receive other people’s money through your account and pass it on.
- They ask for a photo of your identity card or bank card before there is any contract.
- They cannot tell you the name and address of the company, or those details cannot be checked.
- They rush you to decide straight away and avoid a written contract.
