Locality: Zebbug

Zebbug, also known by its title Citta Rohan is a town located in the Maltese south. This impressive town that is said to be one of the oldest on the Maltese islands, is the hometown to more than 13.000 people today. The parish church of Zebbug is dedicated to Saint Philip, and the feast in his honour is celebrated on the 12th of May or the second Sunday of June every year. The origin of the name Zebbug comes from the Maltese word for olives, which reveals that the town used to be a place where a huge number of olive groves stood. The title Citta Rohan, on the other hand, was taken from the Grandmaster Emmanuel de Rogan. The town used to be one of the chief towns during the times of the Knights of Malta. One of the most important landmarks that still stands today is the Zebbug City Gate built in the 18th century, as well as the magnificent Parish Church.
