The main house at Crenca is a fully renovated, traditional stone built farmhouse set in 11 hectares of unspoilt countryside in the Sao Mamede Natural Park, a protected area. It is full of original features such as stone lintels and chestnut beams and all the doors, internal and external, are locally made with chestnut. It has five bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor, though one room can be used as a second reception room. Downstairs there is a kitchen with locally made chestnut units and granite work surfaces, a full bathroom, sitting room, dining room, WC and a separate storage room. The living room has an efficient log burning stove and the dining room has a traditional fireplace also with a log burning stove. The roof has triple insulation to make it as cosy or cool as possible. There are two sets of stone stairs to the upper floor at opposite ends of the house which would allow for the house to be divided into 2 smaller units. The area immediately around the house comprises several stone and slate terraces and a fully tiled, filtered swimming pool.

In addition to the main house there is also a second dwelling, a fully renovated, self-contained barn which has a kitchen, bathroom, sitting room and mezzanine bedroom. It has a log burner and is double glazed making it warm in winter and cool in the heat, It is completely independent of the main house.

There is also a handy stone outhouse with original bread oven that provides space for storage. Eighty per cent of the land is rocky hillside, requiring no maintenance, though perfect for grazing goats. There are 3 acres available for arable farming or market gardening. The land has a small vinyard with mature red wine vines, Periquita and Touriga Nacional. The rest of the land has cork oaks, an olive grove, chestnut and other fruit trees. There is a natural spring with a retaining tank used for irrigation. Nearer the house is a 4 car, stone car port. This is a property which is perfect for all year round living, providing scope for cultivation, though if this is not a concern it can be easily maintained. The two independent houses are perfect for self-catering rentals. Local, relaible help is easily available at a reasonable price. The houses are to be sold with their contents. We have lived happily in this region for more than 20 years but have now decided to be closer to the family in the UK.
