Chevaigne Du Maine

This charming 200-year-old stone farmhouse with adjacent barn boasts original features and bags of character and must be seen to be appreciated. It is located in the Orne region of Normandy, famed for its cheese and cider, in a tranquil hamlet location that is 15 minutes' drive from the nearest charming town of Lassay-Les-Chateaux and only an hour north of Le Mans.

The grounds in front of the house include an original cattle byre now strewn with grape vines, plus a generous front garden bursting with fruit trees. To the rear is a wide garden backed by a large field used to grow crops and hay.

To the rear of the kitchen is a stable-door style rear exit into the back garden, plus a small WC.

An entrance way off the kitchen leads to a lounge and dining room, complete with inglenook fireplace built by the current owners from local stone, plus a pot-bellied wood burning stove.

First floor

A wooden staircase leads to the first floor landing (2.80m x 3.50m), complete with original oak floorboards and room for a double futon.

A door to the left leads to the master bedroom (3m x 6.10m). A dormer window in place of what used to be the hay loft entrance and a Velux roof window provide the light in this bedroom, which also has exposed beams and a rough-plastered stone wall.

A family bathroom is also situated off the first floor landing (2.50m x 1.90m) and includes a powerful shower, generous basin, heated towel rail and WC.

The second bedroom (2.80m x 6.10m) is at the opposite end of the landing from the master bedroom, and is large enough for two single or one king sized bed.

The barn

The stone barn adjacent to the house was built at the same time as the original farmhouse. It currently incorporates a small roofed workshop but would offer a fantastic second single-storey accommodation space.

The owners are offering all the furniture, white goods and contents already in situ as part of the sale.
