Architecture

The building was erected in 1873 in neo-classical style during the "Ringstrasse" construction period (State Opera, Museums of Art & Natural History, Parliament, "Burg" theatre etc.). The architects Johann Romano von Ringe and August Schwendenwein von Lonauberg, who were specialized in the construction of castles and luxurious residential buildings, were responsible for the design of this patrician building as well. The stately residing is expressed - among others - in the classically designed facade and entrance area. The building's appeal stems from its spacious beletage and its clear facade decoration, drawing on the style of the Renaissance. Especially the pilasters, a tympanon, limestone and oeil-de-boeuf friezes in the entrance area are providing a copious decoration.

In 2005, the architectural team "Silberpfeil-Architekten" were commissioned with the all-encompassing redesign of the rooftop area. The intention was a new interpretation of the roof in accordance with the 21st century's social requirements. Huge glass surfaces combined with intuitional foldings are producing a cristalline appearance. The newly created apartment is divided into a rooftop-, a gallery- and rooftop terrace-floor (from top to bottom) with terraces on all three levels.
