Locality: Tarxien

The town of Hal Tarxien is situated in the southern region of Malta. It is a small but lively town, famous for the Tarxien Neolithic Temples, a megalithic complex that is found in the area. The name Tarxien evolved from the word 'tirix' meaning large stones. The history of this town dates back to prehistoric times. The oldest temple found in the area suggests that Tarxien has been inhabited since 2800 BC. Tarxien was also one of the towns that were the first to become a parish. The parish church of Tarxien is in honour to The Annunciation of Our Lady, and the feast of the Annunciation is celebrated at the end of May or beginning of June every year. Another important church in the town, is the church in honour of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
